Prime Minister Commodore Voreqe Bainimarama has thanked members of the Republic of Fiji Military Forces for their service to the country.
In his capacity as Commander RFMF he commended soldiers during the last military parade for 2010 held at the Queen Elizabeth Barracks this morning.
He also presented meritorious award medals to 73 recipients during the parade.
Commodore Bainimarama acknowledged the service of officers at peacekeeping missions in Sudan, East Timor, Iraq and Sinai.
Speaking in Fijian, Commodore Bainimarama urged unit commanders and administration officers to ensure all serving officers were recognised for their work and rewarded accordingly.
“There has been a delay of awarding these medals to officers and for some – age is catching up quickly,” Commodore Bainimarama said.
“We need to speed up the processes and ensure soldiers are recognised for their service to the country.
“However, I want to commend all medal recipients today for your loyalty, dedication and hard work.
“Credit should also be given to members of your family, spouses, parents and everyone who have contributed to your success and achievements.”
Commodore Bainimarama paid tribute to those who have passed on in 2010 during their course of service and those who have retired from active duties for their contribution to the force and to the country.
However, he urged members of the military to be mindful of the Commander’s Intent as guideline to their actions and conduct and stressed the importance of their role in maintaining order and the rule of law in Fiji.
“I need to emphasise your role and duties to maintaining law and order,” Commodore Bainimarama said.
“We play an important integrated role to the role of the Fiji Police Force and Fiji Prisons Services so please show them your support and let’s work together.”
Commodore Bainimarama’s comments came after he warned military officers of their general conduct during the festive season.
