Commission Holds First Meeting 2011

The Public Service Commission held its first meeting for 2011 today (26/01/11).

Commission chairman Mr Josefa Serulagilagi said the meeting considered and made decisions on matters pertaining to disciplinary actions, staffing establishment, restructuring and in-service training policy review.

He said the commission in its deliberations was always mindful of the necessity to ensure that decisions were made in the ‘best interests’ of the civil service.

The commission fully embraces requirements of the People Charter for Change, Peace and Prosperity and the Roadmap for Sustainable Economic Development and Democracy in its deliberations and decision making.

The commission is an autonomous and independent body that comes under the ambit of the Prime Ministers Office and is governed by the States Services Decree of 2009 and exercises the statutory functions as encapsulated under the Public Service Act.

The commission meets monthly and has scheduled 12 meetings for 2011.
