Former Police Commissioner and Fiji’s new Ambassador designate to China Commodore Esala Teleni paid a courtesy visit to the National Fire Authority (NFA) at the NFA HQ in Walu Bay, Suva this morning.
He was accompanied by the Director Foreign Affairs Mr Penijamini Lomaloma and the new First Secretary designate to China Mr Josefa Tuima.
Commodore Teleni was greeted with a quarter guard by the fire fighters at the Suva Fire Station and then inspected the Suva Fire Station facilities, vehicle fleet including the new fire truck purchased from China and firefighting equipment.
Commodore Teleni and his team were then briefed by the NFA Acting CEO Mr Jone Koroi and Executive Management on the NFA operation Fiji-wide, progress relating to the NFA-China relationship and the potential opportunities that can help quickly enhance NFA’s capability and capacity with assistance from China. NFA Board Chairman Mr John Low was also present in the briefing.
The relationship between the NFA and the China Fire Bureau was first established in 2007.
This bilateral relationship was taken to another level following successful discussions in finalizing an MOU with the China Fire Bureau in November last year.
Mr Low briefly outlined the initiatives generated from the China Fire Bureau over the years during the briefing.
“With Commodore Teleni’s extensive experience in the Emergency services, being a former Commissioner of Police and Navy Commander, NFA looks forward to working with the new Ambassador designate to China to further enhance this relationship and further explore new opportunities for assistance towards the enhancement of the emergency services in Fiji and in particular the Fire emergency service and consolidate the current arrangements that were made by his predecessor, Sir James Ah Koy”, Mr Low said.
“I would like to acknowledge, Sir James Ah Koy for providing great assistance to NFA”, Mr Low added.
