Students of Queen Victoria School were today reminded by His Excellency the President, Ratu Epeli Nailatikau to concentrate on their studies.
Ratu Epeli who is also the Commander-in-Chief of the Royal Fiji Military Force was chief guest at the school’s military cadet parade at Albert Park today.
“The drill displayed today was of high standard and I am honoured to be the Reviewing Officer.
“Everyone gathered today witnessed display of discipline and unity in excellent order and uniformity.
“I hope that you carry this display of character with you into the classrooms and also excel academically.
“Concentrate on your studies and let your results take you places,” he said.
Parents, teachers, dignitaries, old scholars and members of the public turned out in numbers to witness a colourful display of marching drills.
QVS students for the first time wore their new cadet uniform – the first of any school in Fiji, replacing the usual combat green khakis.
School principal Mr Filimoni Vatuvoka said the parade was also the first time the QVS students wore their new cadet uniforms with the official school colors of blue and white.
“Cadet is not new at QVS and it has been part of the school since 1924 when the school was born in Nasinu.
“This has been the tradition at QVS and we have witnessed results from the students.

“It helped them develop holistically and grow with more discipline. They are able to listen to instructions and do them accordingly.
“There is no sinister motive behind this as to the popular opinion for we believe this is for their personal development,” Mr Vatuvoka said.
All the four school houses namely Tovata, Verata, Rewa and Bau received prizes but the overall champion prize went to the Tovata House.
The Baton of Honour was awarded to the School Head Boy, Ioane Tiko Ponipate of Vuna in Cakaudrove.
