The United Nations Resident Coordinator Knut Ostby noted Fiji has lost an ‘extraordinary’ leader with the passing of the former President and Tui Vuda the late Ratu Josefa Iloilovatu Uluivuda.
He expressed the condolence of all United Nation’s Agencies in Fiji in a letter to the Permanent Secretary for Foreign Affairs Solo Mara.
“On behalf of the United Nations Agencies in Fiji, I am writing to express our deep regret and sorrow on learning of the death of the Tui Vuda and former President of the Republic of Fiji, Ratu Josefa Iloilovatu Uluivuda, CF, MBE, KSt.J, MSD, JP,” he said.
“We were saddened to learn about the passing away of Ratu Josefa Iloilovatu Uluivuda on Sunday 6 February.
“Fiji, and indeed, the world, has lost an extraordinary leader whose commitment to the progress of his country and the betterment of all its citizens was total.
“We will miss Ratu Josefa Iloilovatu Uluivuda’s diplomatic skills, vision and his humanity.
“May his soul rest in peace.
“Please extend our deepest sympathy and condolences to Adi Kavunono and her family and we hope that these few words will comfort them during this time of sadness and personal loss.”
