Consult Government on the education of children

27/01/2011

Prime Minister Commodore Voreqe Bainimarama urged parents to regularly consult government authorities to address the issue of their children’s education.

He made the comments when opening the new dining hall at Naitavuni Catholic Primary School in the northern part of Naitasiri province.

School manager Mr Petero Pasikale said the community contributed $10,000 to match Government’s $8,000 investment for the construction of  the dining hall.

The children from the two villages of Delailasakau and Naiseuvou, which are located about half a kilometer apart, attend the school.

Naiseuvou students had to cross the river every morning to attend school.

Mr Pasikale said the purpose of constructing the dining hall was to provide breakfast and lunch for 86 students attending the school.

Commodore Bainimarama said the removal of several external examinations was done to ensure our children progress to Form Seven Level.

“We must ensure that our children attend school because it is our responsibility,” the Prime Minister said.

“Parents must prioritise and value the education of our children and must change our mindsets to ensure our children achieve better results in education.”

He said education brings about much-needed developments within our society.

“As the result Government has undertaken various initiatives in encouraging parents to send their children to school by providing free text books and free bus fares,” Commodore Bainimarama said.

Ratu Lino Vavanua, 14, of Delailasakau village said he was happy to see the dinning hall constructed, because it would facilitate meals for students every morning.
