Council will present report to PM

23/03/2011

The National People’s Charter Advisory Council will present its first report on the implementation of the People’s Charter for Change Peace and Progress to the Prime Minister Commodore Voreqe Bainimarama this week.

The council met to scrutinise and finalise details of the report at the Tanoa Plaza in Suva this morning.

It is the 9th meeting of the council since its formation in 2009 and the first for 2011.

Council chairman Josefa Serulagilagi said the meeting was a time for council members to relook at the work and critical areas of concern for the 11 pillars of the charter.

“We have been going through the progress that has come through on the 11 pillars of the charter, how they have been implemented by government ministries and statutory organisation,” he said.

“As far as we are concerned I think things are going well in terms of the various ministries roles.

“There is a report that has been prepared by the charter secretariat, we are going through that report now and if there are changes we will change them and after that we will formalise and put the report together and submit to the Prime Minister.

“Some areas we are looking at are the putting up of a constitution and electoral reforms among other issues that we will need to address with the Prime Minister.

“We know that work must be carried out within a timeframe and so that everything is in place by 2014.”
