18/08/2010

The Fiji Police Force in partnership with key stakeholders is pursuing a Crime Free Fiji by 2012, which is in line with the government’s vision of a new Fiji says Minister for Local Government, Urban Development and Housing, Colonel Samuela Saumatua.

He made these comments in closing the Crime Free Symposium held at the Nasova Police Academy today.

Colonel Saumatua said the ultimate goal is to declare Fiji a Crime Free State by 2012.

“In a direction that is not the same as the way we used to move before. Obviously what we’ve been doing in the past may or may not be working today. It is for us now to sit and determine what is the new way or the new direction that we have to take to create this new Fiji. There can be no other goal except for that of a crime free Fiji.

“To achieve this goal, the Fiji Police has been constantly working with the community whereby crime free towns and cities have been declared,’ he said.

He said the Fiji Police  Force has been constantly working with the community  in declaring crime free towns, cities and settlements.

Those communities that have signed crime free declarations have overwhelmingly supported, launched and produced the unifying factor necessary for this noble initiative.
He has issued a public challenge to make this dream a reality so that everybody’s safety and security is ensured.
