The Department of Youth and Sports staff generously donated towards the Western Division flood relief assistance as part of the department’s corporate social obligation.
The contribution was handed over by the department’s rep, Mr Baleinakasi to Mr Setareki Tale, Director Corporate Services (DISMAC) at the DISMAC office last week.
Staff members were able to collect 408kg of warm clothes, beddings and a carton of cooking and eating utensils.
The Department’s Director Makereta Sauturaga said that many families were affected as a direct result of the recent flood in the west, staff members had opted to contribute towards the Western Flood Relief Appeal.
“We understand that there are still a lot of families who are in need of emergency humanitarian assistance. We also encourage our youths to be strong and to assist their families in whatever area they can in this time of need”, added Sauturaga.
The Department facilitates empowerment and mentoring programmes for youths around the country to influence attitudinal change in young people’s lives as part of its programmes.
