Director Sugar Research, Policy and Planning of the Ministry of Sugar Industry, Ms Reshmi Kumari, received the "Award of Appreciation" on the occasion of the 7th International Association of Professionals in Sugar and Integrated Technologies (IAPSIT) International Sugar Conference (Sugarcon-2022) earlier this week.
She received the award at the ICAR-Indian Institute of Sugarcane Research in Lucknow, India which was given in recognition of her sincere support to IAPSIT and for promoting collaborative research and development programs at international level.
The conference, with the theme "Sustainability of the Sugar and Integrated Industries: Issues and Initiatives", was attended by various researchers, growers, policy makers, and other key stakeholders from across the world to exchange experiences, ideas and solutions for the sustainable and inclusive growth of the sugar and integrated industries in developing countries.
Over the years, Ms Kumari has developed close collaboration and has been actively involved with sugar researchers and scientists from India.
At the Sugarcon-2022, she was the only female among other Guests of Honour and she also spoke at the inaugural session.
Director Reshmi said the award came as a surprise to her and she attributed her success to her family and the Ministry of Sugar Industry.
She said it was indeed a proud moment for Ministry of Sugar Industry and Fiji as a whole to be recognised internationally through various platforms, one of which is the Sugarcon-2022.
Director Reshmi also conveyed her gratitude to the Prime Minister and Minister for Sugar Industry and the Permanent Secretary for the Office of the Prime Minister and Sugar Industry for their unwavering support to the staff of the Ministry and the Sugar Industry.
