The essence of Diwali or Deepawali is about unity, coming together and celebrating with each other.
This was the statement highlighted by the Assistant Minister for Employment, Productivity and Industrial Relations, Youth and Sports Hon. Alvick Maharaj while officiating at the Diwali event organised by the management and staff of the Employment Ministry in Suva yesterday.
Asst. Minister Maharaj highlighted the significance of Diwali whereby everyone comes together, putting aside differences and in the spirit of “bringing in the light”.
“There are a lot of stories why we celebrate Diwali but in all, it’s basically about everybody uniting together.”
“The unity is the main essence of Diwali that we should be advocating to each other. It’s a time where we come together to reflect on what we have done this year, and how we can best fit ourselves to see what and how we can perform our duties.”
Asst. Minister Maharaj emphasised to the management and staff to improve service delivery to all its customers. He also stressed the importance of maintaining professional and timely service delivery.
The management and staff celebrated Diwali by sharing food provided by the Asst. Minister Maharaj and live Indian folk song played in a harmonium instrument by the staff.
