“Do not be hard on yourselves, but take this as a learning curb.”
This was the message from the Attorney General and Minister for Justice Hon. Siromi Turaga while speaking to inmates at the Labasa Corrections facilities this afternoon (24.08.23), urging them to aspire to be better individuals.
AG Turaga highlighted that rehabilitation centers was not the end of the journey, but place set up to help in their transformation and training.
“There have been many others that have gone through the same situation, and upon release have gone on to pursue their dreams of furthering their education, becoming entrepreneurs, and other areas where they have greatly contributed to society,” AG Turaga said.
“There are programmes and opportunities that are offered here to assist in your reform, and you should take it positively.”
He said the purpose of his visit with the Acting Commissioner of Corrections Salote Ratu was because the Government cared for them, and the services rendered for their reform.
“You are here for a reason, to be rehabilitated, to be better and we want you to walk out of here with a purpose.”
AG Turaga also spoke to them about the importance of understanding, and respecting the law.
“I have always stressed that we do unto others, what you want others to do to you,” he said.
“The Government cares about you and the Fiji Correction Service is here to help in your rehabilitation.”
AG Turaga after today, has toured all the Correction facilities in the country with the exception for the one in Lakeba.
