The Coalition Government yesterday (01/08/25) reaffirmed its commitment to community empowerment and rural development with the official handover of Phase II of the LOWES Donation Programme in Vitogo Village, Lautoka.
Officiating at the event, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister for Trade, Co-operatives, MSMEs and Communications, Hon. Manoa Kamikamica, described the handover as a powerful example of public-private partnerships delivering real support to Fijian families.
The donation, valued at over AUD 370,000, includes workwear pants and high-quality fabric that will directly benefit sugarcane farmers and labourers – the hardworking men and women at the heart of Fiji’s sugar industry.
“This is more than just the handing over of materials. This is about dignity, opportunity and hope,” said the Deputy Prime Minister.
“It shows what can be achieved when businesses and communities come together for the common good.”
The LOWES Donation Programme, facilitated by Vuvale Outsourcing in partnership with LOWES Australia, is part of a broader effort to support rural and farming communities. The initiative is being delivered in close coordination with FENC Fiji, the Sugar Cane Growers Fund, and other local partners.
In his remarks, Hon. Kamikamica acknowledged the ongoing efforts by Vuvale Outsourcing, a Fijian-grown company, in showing leadership in corporate social responsibility.
“Vuvale is not only creating jobs in the outsourcing space, but it is investing in people, education, and community wellbeing. Today’s handover is a reflection of their long-term commitment to Fiji’s development,” he said.
The Deputy Prime Minister also highlighted the Government’s broader commitment to reviving the sugar industry through policy reforms, mechanisation, and increased support for farmers. He added that many cane farming families also rely on small businesses for added income, and the Ministry is working to scale these through MSME and co-operative development programs.
“The goal is simple: we want our rural families not just to survive, but thrive.”
The outsourcing sector, which now employs thousands of young Fijians, continues to be one of the fastest-growing industries in the country. Government, through agencies like Investment Fiji and the Ministry of Communications, is providing infrastructure, training, and incentives to drive the sector forward.
Hon. Kamikamica concluded by calling for continued unity across sectors.
“Whether you are an international brand, a local company, a government department or a village leader, we all have a role to play. Let us keep working together to build stronger communities and a better Fiji.”
Also gracing the event were the Minister for Sugar and Multi Ethnic Affairs, Hon. Charan Jeath Singh, officials from the LOWES Australia, FENC Fiji, Fiji Sugar Corporation and the Sugar Cane Growers Council.
