The 2025–2026 National Budget implementation should be efficient and timely, says Deputy Prime Minister and Minister for Finance Hon. Biman Prasad.
Speaking to government stakeholders during a Post Budget Public Consultation at Nadi Town Council Chambers and at the Lautoka City Council Chambers yesterday (01-07-25), DPM Prasad called on civil servants to take charge of delivery, stressing that they are the key implementers.
“This budget outlines our priorities, what the people need, and what must be done now. If we don’t deliver, people suffer,” he said.
He reaffirmed key measures: maintaining VAT-free status on 22 essential items, continuing direct support for vulnerable groups, and expanding funding for health, roads, education, and police.
The government is committed to fighting the HIV epidemic with an allocation of $10 million, increasing police numbers with an additional $40 million, and accelerating critical infrastructure projects, including the long-delayed Nadi Flood Alleviation Project and the construction of a new national hospital.
“There is money in the budget; now it’s about execution. If we don’t spend, we slow the economy. Delivery is everything,” he said.
DPM Prasad urged civil servants and other stakeholders to study the budget documents, understand allocations, and move quickly to turn plans into action.
“This budget is about improving lives. Let’s make it count.”
