DPM PRASAD: BUDGET TO FOCUS ON DELIVERY, EFFICIENCY, AND PRIVATE SECTOR PARTNERSHIPS

24/05/2025

Deputy Prime Minister and Minister for Finance Hon. Professor Biman Prasad has reiterated the Coalition Government’s commitment to strengthening public service delivery and building a resilient economy through effective partnerships with the private sector.

Speaking at the Nadi Chamber of Commerce and Industry Business Forum, Professor Prasad said the 2025–2026 National Budget would be grounded in efficiency, inclusivity, and results.

“Our 2025–2026 Budget will focus on delivery and efficiency of public services and, in partnership with the private sector, we’re building a resilient, inclusive, and prosperous Fiji,” he said.

Professor Prasad emphasised that while the economy has been steadily growing, the focus must now shift from stimulus spending to responsible management.

“The time for spending to revive the economy is over. The government must now spend more carefully. The public must see value in the money we spend,” he said.

Addressing concerns around the high cost of living and inflation, he acknowledged the strain on households and businesses.

“Families are feeling the pinch. We are listening, and we are taking action,” he said, adding that relief and support measures will be key features of the new budget.

He also encouraged private sector investment, highlighting the government’s willingness to engage meaningfully with businesses. “We are not here to make fancy announcements. We are here to work with you.”

Professor Prasad noted that budget consultations with groups like the Nadi Chamber are vital to delivering a budget that reflects the people’s priorities. “We want a transparent, responsible, and responsive government. That is our promise to the people.”

The event was part of ongoing nationwide consultations as the Ministry of Finance prepares for the announcement of the 2025–2026 National Budget in June.
