DPM PRASAD LAUNCHES COMPLIANCE IMPROVEMENT STRATEGY 2025-2028

31/07/2025

Deputy Prime Minister and Minister for Finance, Hon. Biman Prasad launched the Compliance Improvement Strategy (CIS) 2025-2028 at the Fiji Revenue and Customs Service (FRCS) today (31.07.25).

The CIS includes a web-based platform for easy access to tax information and services, which targets unique challenges in sectors like wholesale, retail, and Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises.

This launch aims to improve taxpayer behaviour through voluntary compliance and enhance education and awareness while building trust and fairness in the system. In commending the initiative, DPM Prasad outlined the principles of a good tax system, emphasising the importance of trust between taxpayers and FRCS.

He highlighted the Coalition Government's efforts to involve the private sector in national development plans and the importance of creating a level playing field for all players in the economy.

“As we continue to build a stronger and more inclusive Fiji, we must recognise that not only is a fair and effective tax system a government mechanism, but it is a shared commitment between the State and its people that ensures that we can fund our schools, hospitals, infrastructure, and essential services, and that allows us to invest in the future,” he said.

“As a government, that is never enough because budgets are always limited and revenues are always limited; however, governments have to work within that because an element of that includes borrowing as well and a deficit.”

“So, the idea of this new compliance strategy is about creating a culture where compliance is not feared but embraced,” he added.

DPM Prasad emphasised that voluntary compliance is the foundation of national development when taxpayers willingly meet their obligations of registering, filing, paying taxes on time, and reporting accurately, which will benefit everyone.

Taxpayers, businesses, and public servants are urged to play their part in building a culture of compliance through service and shared responsibility.
