Deputy Prime Minister and Minister for Finance, Hon. Biman Prasad, conducted a site visit to Nadi yesterday (01-07-25) where he received a briefing on the preliminary works planned under the Greater Nadi Flood Alleviation Project.
Joining him on site was the Acting High Commissioner of Australia, Ms Clair McNamara and government stakeholders who provided an update on the progress of the Airport Barrier Protection works—funded entirely through a grant under the Australian Infrastructure Financing Facility for the Pacific (AIFFP).
DPM Prasad also visited areas earmarked for the construction of dikes, which will be developed with grant assistance from the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA).
The government remains committed to delivering this long-awaited project, noting that while extensive studies and master planning have been completed over the years, there has been little physical progress on the ground.
Consultations will continue with both development partners to determine which structural components can be fast-tracked for early construction.
