The Minister for Women, Social Welfare and Poverty Alleviation, Dr Jiko Luveni will visit wome’s groups on Bau island tomorrow.

The visit, which transpired out of handicraft bazaar organised by women, is poised to be a fun-filled occasion.

“A talanoa session will enable villagers to highlight problems they may be facing on the island and together we identify ways the ministry can step in to assist them,” Media Liaison Officer, Anshoo Mala Chandra said.

Ms Chandra said the ministry would be handing over six sewing machines to the women’s groups.

“This is to boost their income generating projects.  The minister will also discuss projects from which women on the island can attain financial independence,” Ms Chandra said.

She said Dr Luveni’s visit is also aligned with government’s vision to reach out to people in rural and remote areas because these were the very people who suffered from poverty and need the direction to take their families out of poverty.

From December 8 to 11, the minister will be touring the Lomaiviti Group to pursue plans for socio-economic development and empowerment of women as outlined in the Women’s Plan of Action 2010 to 2019.
