STATEMENT FROM THE LAND TRANSPORT AUTHORITY
The Land Transport Authority would like to reiterate a stern warning to all bus drivers.
This is with regard to an incident whereby a Class Two student was forced to walk three kilometers to reach home because the bus driver wouldn’t accept her bus voucher.
As highlighted by the Education Ministry, that received the complaint from the child’s parent, the driver refused to accept the bus voucher that was torn because it had been raining that particular afternoon.
Such behavior from a Public Service Vehicle driver is unacceptable.
Drivers and bus companies should be mindful that under the PSV Drivers Code of Conduct, a driver cannot refuse any primary school student, a seat in the bus.
“School bus drivers must not refuse any primary school student boarding the school bus if the student has no bus fare/bus voucher for whatever reason,” the LTA statement said.
Drivers are reminded to adhere to the guidelines in the Code of Conduct at all times.
Any breach of this will result in serious penalty.
The authority is investigating this incident and will take appropriate action against the driver and the bus company responsible for such misconduct.
