E-LEARNING WORKSHOP FOR TVET

The Public Service Commission deputy secretary Ms Iva Tavai this week officially opened the Colombo Plan Staff College (CPSC) in Country Workshop on “Developing E- Learning Content in technical vocational education and training” (TVET) at the PSC training centre at Nasese.

The workshop which now continues for five days at the University of the South Pacific ITC centre includes 30 participants from government ministries, and tertiary institutions as well as the E-Learning Consultant from the Colombo Plan Staff College Mr Michael Montero

While opening the workshop Ms Tavai highlighted the relationship between Fiji and the Colombo Plan Staff College.

“Ladies and gentlemen, the partnership between CPSC and the Fiji Government has been in existence since the first in-country workshop organised in Suva way back in 1996,” Tavai said.

Tavai said Fiji is one of the 17 CPSC member countries that has immensely benefitted in the area of capacity building.

“In addition to this in-country program, each year a number of officers from various Government ministries, non government organization and educational institutions have also participated in training programs abroad and hosted by CPSC member countries,” she said.

Tavai said the workshop with its theme “Developing e-learning content in TVET” is indeed timely and important for Fiji.

“I am told that this in-country program will provide a venue for education officers, teachers and trainers of various government ministries and technical institutions in Fiji to improve the distribution of their instructional content.”

Tavai told participants that this year the Ministry of Education is embarking on introducing e-learning in 12 Government Schools and this month will officially launch e-learning programs in 4 government schools.

She also urged participants to apply and share skills and knowledge they gain during the workshop and share skills to improve the quality of service that will be provided to their customers.

The Workshop now continues at the USP ICT centre and will end on Saturday.
