Education and awareness exercise on the introduction of e-ticketing on Fiji’s bus services continues this week in schools.
Students currently assisted under the Government bus fare subsidy programme will be the first to trial this new e-ticketing concept, that will phase-out the bus fare voucher system currently used by schools around the country.
Five schools in the Eastern Division have been identified to pioneer the new e-ticketing concept.
Ministry of Education deputy secretary, Satindra Deo today met with principals from Suva schools (both primary and secondary) informing them about the new e-ticketing concept.
The schools visitation is part of the ongoing education and awareness organized by the Government e-ticketing task force formed to handle the e-ticketing project.
This task force is made up of the Ministry of Works Transport and Public Utilities, Land Transport Authority; Ministry of Education; Transtel (tfl subsidiary company) and Fiji Bus Operators.
The task force team also visited Adi Cakobau School and discussed with teachers the operations of the new e-ticketing project.
On Tuesday this week they visited Saraswati Primary and met with teachers.
The schools visitations are part of education exercise to properly advise and inform teachers and student on the changes and positives brought about through e-ticketing.
Adi Cakobau (ACS) is among the five schools that have been identified to pilot this new e-ticketing concept which includes:
1. Rambisessar Chaudhary memorial school
2. Saraswati Primary Dilkusha school
3. Tacirua Bhartiya Pathshala Primary school
4. Saraswati College
Tacirua Bus Company which services these schools will have 25 of its busses installed with the new e-ticketing consoles.
Students will be issued with smart cards to swipe on the consoles installed in these buses.
Students under the bus fare subsidy programme in the five schools will also undergo training to familiarize themselves on the new e-ticketing process, as part of the awareness campaign.
The awareness exercise is expected to move to the Northern and Western divisions in the coming weeks with visitations to schools in the remote areas of Fiji.
