EDUCATION BREAKTHROUGH AS YASAWA SOUTH SEC SCHOOL OPENS

31/01/2026

The Minister for Education, Hon. Aseri Radrodro, officially opened Yasawa South Secondary School in Waya Lailai, Yasawa this week welcoming its first lot of Year 9 students and seven teachers.

During his mid-2025 visit, Minister Radrodro commissioned a new ablution block and heard the community’s long-standing call for a dedicated secondary school.

The School Management Committee renovated existing hostel facilities to temporarily house classrooms. The school currently has six students enrolled, with more than 10 additional students expected by the end of the week.

Yasawa South Secondary School will serve students from Namara, Naboro, Yamata, Yalobi, Natawa, Nalauwaki and Vuwa villages, as well as Namara Village School, Rt Naivalu Memorial School and Viwa Island School.

Minister Radrodro encouraged families to take advantage of the new school, which reduces travel costs and allows students to remain close to their communities.

Addressing students, he emphasised that geography is not a barrier to achievement, citing Waidina Secondary School and Vunisea Secondary School, both of which recorded 100 percent Year 12 pass rates last year.

“Yasawa South Secondary School is an investment in the future of our children, our community, and our nation,” Minister Radrodro said.
