EDUCATION MINISTER OFFICIATES AT TECHNICAL COLLEGE GRADUATION

Minister for Education, Heritage and Arts, Hon. Rosy Akbar officiated at the Technical College of Fiji’s Western division graduation in Nadi, and noted the exceptional support of the Fijian Government towards education.
 
“The Fijian Government has allocated an unprecedented sum of $255m in the 2018/2019 National Budget to assist all Fijians realize their dream of attaining tertiary education and ensure that no young person is left behind, even at the tertiary level because they cannot afford it,” Minister Akbar said.
 
A total of 437 students from TFC’s Lautoka Sanatan Campus, Dr. Shaukat Ali Sahib Campus (Nadi) and Nadroga/Navosa Provincial Campus (Sigatoka) graduated at the Swami Vivekananda College hall this afternoon.
 
“Since the inception of TCF in 2015, the Fijian Government has invested around $16.764m in the education of TCF students under Tertiary Education Loan Scheme in the form of tuition and allowances,” Minister Akbar noted. 
 
“Since 2016 3,686 students have graduated from TFC. This year another 1,484 students have completed various programs. The most popular programme among the campuses is National Certificate II in Cookery and Certificate II in Baking & Patisserie. The demand for specific technical skills speaks for itself and prepares us to where we are headed in terms of new job creation.”
 
The students attained certification in automotive electrical and electronic engineering, automotive mechanical engineering, electrical fitter mechanics, body works and spray painting, fabrication and welding, refrigeration, heating and ventilation, carpentry, cabinet making and joinery.
