EDUCATION MINISTER RECEIVES COURTESY VISIT FROM THE AMBASSADOR OF THE REPUBLIC OF KOREA TO FIJI

The Hon. Aseri Radrodro, Minister of Education, received a courtesy visit from His Excellency Young-kyu Park, Ambassador of the Republic of Korea to Fiji, yesterday.

The Minister for Education and the Assistant Minister, Hon. Vanawalu were congratulated for the successful election and the formation of the new government.

As the new Minister for Education, Minister Radrodro stated that he looks forward to working in partnership with the Korean Government to raise the National standard of education in Fiji.

Ambassador Park emphasised that education is crucial for the young generation and also for the future of Fiji.

The Permanent Secretary, Dr. Anjeela Jokhan echoed the same sentiments and extended a heartfelt appreciation for the significant support towards ensuring quality education is achieved through the provision of COVID-19 safety kits, IT infrastructure, Industrial Arts tools, Literacy and Numeracy kits to name a few.

The KOICA initiative, which includes Fiji as one of the 12 Pacific Island Countries, was also a subject of discussion. One of its focus areas is Smart Islands, which addresses ICT skills, digital literacy, and education for prosperity.

Minister Radrodro highlighted that many schools need immediate intervention especially in terms of infrastructure and the Smart Islands initiative can be the solution.

“A conducive environment will contribute to a happy teacher, a happy student and most importantly, it will produce quality results”, stated Minister Radrodro. It is therefore vital to take a holistic approach when we are dealing with education”.

Minister Radrodro thanked the support of the Korean Government towards the education sector and hopes to have more regular meetings going forward.
