The Minister for Education, National Heritage, Culture Arts and Library Services, Filipe Bole has warned Lami High School that changes will be adopted if the school does not improve its enrolment process.
Today was day three of the Minister’s school visits around the Suva - Lami corridor. Six schools were visited today including Ballantine Memorial, Lami High, Suva Adventist High, Suva Adventist Primary, Lami Primary and Navesi Primary.
The purpose of the visit was to see how students have settled in and how classes are commencing since the beginning of another academic term earlier this week.
Minister Bole also expressed his disappointment on the laxity of parents and school stakeholders in the late enrolment of students.
“There are only 60 students enrolled and this is absolutely disappointing. I think I will have to cancel the grant and close the school,” said Ambassador Bole.
“Not only the students are late in enrolment but the classes have not seriously started and this is a waste of time and resources,” said Ambassador Bole.
“I will not entertain schools and stakeholders who have such lax attitude towards education. While some schools have established their rolls and seriously begun their academic school year, some schools with the mindset of the community need to change especially when education is now free” Minister Bole said.
The Minister is visiting schools in Navua tomorrow.
