Senior Management and Staff from the Ministry of Education Headquarters, Divisional and District Offices, Heads of Schools, and Teachers have voluntarily come together to provide families in need with food rations during this challenging times.
This Senior Management initiative started as a small group discussion and quickly gained much support from many other staff who have the interest of fellow Fijians at heart. This voluntary initiative will assist hundreds of families. Minister Akbar says, “I am humbled by their generosity. My team have worked tirelessly with suppliers to prepare food packs for those in need. I am extremely proud to lead a team of good hearted individuals who have come forward out of their own will to assist their fellow Fijians”.
All contributions have been made voluntarily and no funds from the Ministry have been utilised towards this initiative.
The team consulted the Advisory Councilors and Turaga-ni-Koros to identify families that were in need of support and distributed the 100 packs in Nausori on Sunday 6th June.
The team will continue with this initiative and plans to assist affected families in other Districts and Divisions.
"At a time like this, we need to come forward in brotherhood and support our fellow Fijians," Minister Akbar said.
"Those that have the capacity to assist, should contribute in any way possible as it is important that we stand strong and stand together for one another rather than politicising the situation."
