EMPLOYMENT MINISTER VISITS AUSTRALIA TO MEET WITH KEY STAKEHOLDERS ON THE SEASONAL WORKER PROGRAMME (SWP)

The Minister for Employment, Productivity & Industrial Relations, Hon. Semi Koroilavesau is leading a team of senior officials from his Ministry in Australia to meet with key stakeholders involved in the Seasonal Worker Programme.

The one week visitation is part of the Inter-Agency Agreement signed between the Government of Australia and the Fijian government last year.

The team had its first roundtable meeting with senior Australian Government officials from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Trade, the Department of Employment, the Department of Immigration, Border Protection and Fair Work, and the Ombudsman’s Office. The meeting was chaired by Mr Pablo Kang, the Assistant Secretary, Melanesian Branch with the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Trade.

Minister Koroilavesau also had consultations with the Chief Executive Officer of the National Farmers Federation Mr Mahar and his associates at Fiji’s High Commission Office in Canberra.

The government delegation is also excepted to meet with Australian Minister for Foreign Affairs, Julie Bishop and employers and workers representatives.
