Selected residents of the Koroipita Model Town in Lautoka received income generation projects from the Minister for Women, Children, and Social Protection, Hon. Sashi Kiran, last week, a continued effort of collaboration between the Coalition Government and stakeholders to improve the welfare of the most vulnerable in our communities.
The residents received:
✅ 34 sewing machines & tailoring starter packs for 34 women with sewing skills;
✅ Catering equipment & grocery starter packs to 2 small business owners;
✅ And an overlock sewing machine to Ms. Erin Laka, a hard-working mother of 5 and home-based tailor caring full-time for her disabled teenage daughter.
Soon after receiving her new sewing machine, Erin was already back to work on a dress order! Her story is a powerful reminder that with the right support, women can thrive—even in the most challenging circumstances.
These income-generating tools are more than equipment—they’re investments in self-reliance, dignity, and sustainable livelihoods.
The handover further supports the vision of the Koroipita Model Town Project, which provides safe, affordable housing and community development for underprivileged families—addressing rural-to-urban drift and resilience to challenges brought about by climate change.
Together, we are creating opportunities and building stronger, more inclusive communities.
