Women from Nasoki, Vadra, Keteira, and Cakova villages in Moala are seizing new opportunities through a transformative financial literacy and entrepreneurship program.

Led by the Ministry of Women, Children, and Social Protection, with support from the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA), this initiative aims to equip women with vital skills in areas such as bookkeeping, marketing, branding, inventory management, and savings strategies. The financial literacy training also included group discussions, fostering collaboration and allowing participants to share insights and learn from each other’s experiences.

Akemi Nagahara, a JICA volunteer, emphasised the importance of the program, stating that financial literacy and effective business management are crucial for creating sustainable livelihoods. This program empowers women to take control of their financial futures, improving their quality of life and that of their families.

Jiajiana Vulaono, a participant from Cakova village, said that before the training, she struggled with starting a small business.

"Now, I feel confident in keeping records and planning ahead. This knowledge will change how I support my family."

In addition to financial literacy training, participants were introduced to essential social welfare services, including support programs and information on available assistance.

The initiative also featured awareness programs conducted by the Fiji Women’s Crisis Centre, Fiji Police, and the Department of Children under the Ministry of Women, Children, and Social Protection.

This program is part of the government’s ongoing efforts to promote gender equality, reduce poverty, and empower women in the community.
