ENCOURAGING CHILDREN TO BECOME JOB CREATORS

12/07/2019

The Fijian Government is committed to Sustainable Development Goal 4 which calls for Quality Education that promotes the improvement in the standards of skill based learning in schools and to promote lifelong learning.

This was highlighted by the Minister for Education, Heritage and Arts, Hon. Rosy Akbar at the opening of TEST and Enterprise Week 2019 which was held at Monfort Boys Town in Veisari, Lami today.

“Our desire is to train students not only to gain technical but also enterprising skills which will enable them to have a mindset of creating jobs in the future,” Minister Akbar said.

Minister Akbar also said that the government not only values youth development but also prioritises the provision of the necessary empowerment tools and resources.

“We do not want our children to be passively seeking employment but encourage them to become job creators or be self-reliant by being self-employed which blends well with the youth development programs and initiatives provided by the Fijian government,” she said.

She added that children need an empowerment tool to guide them and to take ownership of their future.

“Parents and teachers need to recognize children’s abilities, skills and talents and guide them to reach their fullest potential.

The theme for the TEST and Enterprise Week 2019 is: Innovative Skills for Sustainability which is aligned to the theme for the World Youth Skills Day that will be celebrated on the 15th of July.

Students from various primary and secondary schools were also present at the event.
