The Deputy Prime Minister and Minister for Tourism and Civil Aviation, Hon. Viliame Gavoka, visited Vanua Levu to explore several promising development sites and projects aimed at enhancing the region's tourism infrastructure. The visit also included an assessment of potential sites for a proposed international airport.
These site visits underscore the Coalition Government's strong commitment to improving tourism facilities in Vanua Levu and boosting its role as a key destination in Fiji’s tourism strategy.
The inclusion of local communities in such milestones is a vital part of the Government's efforts to ensure that these initiatives align with the needs and aspirations of the people they aim to serve.
The site inspections also featured a review of a potential development location that could mirror the success of Denarau, aimed at further expanding tourism infrastructure and services in the region.
Additionally, DPM Gavoka and the team visited the new Nawi Mariner, a key project that promises to play an integral role in the growth of tourism, especially by attracting luxury vessels and super yachts and creating new opportunities for marine-based activities.
These projects are expected to significantly contribute to the economic development of Cakaudrove and neighbouring provinces, providing fresh avenues for job creation, investment, and local business growth.
The Ministry’s strategic focus is to leverage these developments to transform Vanua Levu into a premier tourism destination, driving long-term economic prosperity while creating sustainable opportunities for the local community.
These efforts are aligned with the Government’s broader vision for inclusive growth and regional development through tourism.
The Permanent Secretary for Tourism and Civil Aviation Ms. Salaseini Daunabuna, Director of Civil Aviation Ms. Alumita Lagicere, and Principal Tourism Officer Ms. Salote Waiwalu and representatives from the Commissioner Northern’s Office were part of the visiting team.
