Education Minister advises against unruly behaviour

12/07/2010

Reports were received from the police confirm the involvement of Suva secondary school students in brawls and unruly behaviour after school last week.

The incident happened at the Suva Bus Stand, which came to a halt when Police closed in on them.

Such unwarranted conduct stems from sports rivalries amongst these schools.

Teachers are requested to counsel these students so that this is not repeated.

Parents are again reminded to talk to their children and remind them of the importance of following school rules.

Students need to be reminded of the following:

· as a student, whether in uniform or not, you will always remain a student and an ambassador of your school;

· as a student, it’s your duty to protect and uphold the name of your school and should not, at any time, bring disrepute to the school and its administration;

· as a student, your actions reflect your family, your village, your province and your school;

· as a student, it is your duty to respect your colleagues in school and those from other schools;

· as a student, you must work hard in whatever you take part in. If its sports, do your talking in the field, not outside. You are a loser and will always be a loser, if you are involved in ugly brawls outside school;

· as a student, always remember your parents’ wishes and dreams, when they send you to school. Take time to ponder over their struggles at home to ensure you have a decent education.

· as a student, your priority at school is your school work and that must take centre stage all the time;
· as a student, be one. Do not act above your age as that is the beginning of your slipping away out of the education system;

· finally, as a student, remember you are God’s unique creation; likewise your school mates and those from other school.

It is time to make a difference for we cannot move ahead without letting go of your past failures.

You are just as good as any other student and it doesn’t mean attending one school makes you superior to another student from another school.

You are all equal. You are all students.
