Education Ministry clarifies 84 principal posts

19/08/2009

The report by the Fiji Sun (17/08) that the Education Ministry is looking for 84 school heads is quite misleading.

The report stated that “principals of other schools were also tasked to look after neighbouring schools in terms of administration”.

There is no such thing happening in our schools.

Vacancies do arise in wastages such as retirements, resignations or when a teacher passes on.

The Ministry’s publication of those 84 posts were solely based on such wastages. It does not necessarily mean that those 84 schools are without Principals.

In the 84 schools, there are acting Principals already appointed and are carrying out the functions of the post. A substantive appointment will be made after the advertised posts are processed.
