The inclusion of scouts and girl guides in primary schools’ extra curricular programs, is always regarded by the Education Ministry, as an enriching one for students to, not only explore and learn survival skills, but also share experience with fellow scout members.

The Education Ministry fully supports such initiatives from teachers, as this is one way of empowering our students to become role models in society.

Last week, the Education Minister was at Lodoni Primary School and awarded badges to boy scouts at the school.

The scouts at Lodoni Primary had just completed a camp and they were awarded badges which ranged from “outstanding leadership qualities” to “comedian of the camp” .

The Ministry is encouraging students to join such enriching programs, which should positively contribute towards their physical, spiritual, social and mental development.

On the same note, the Ministry calls on parents and communities’ support to complement highly rewarding initiatives of this nature.

Scouting in Fiji was founded in 1914, seven years after Lord Baden-Powell held the first scout camp at Brownsea Island in England. Girl guides in the country was later founded in 1924.
