Education ministry urges transport operators to be registered

03/03/2010

The announcement by the Education Ministry that it has made its first payment to student transport providers last week should motivate unregistered student transport providers to be registered.

In that regard, the Ministry is urging all mini-bus, boat and carrier operators who have in the past, been transporting students to and from school, to be registered with the LTA in order to get a Rural Service Licence (RSL).

Once they are registered, LTA will then notify the Ministry of their eligibility status. Thus the sooner they get themselves registered, the sooner they will be enjoying receiving their cheques as reimbursement for their service.

The Ministry wishes to reiterate that only those operators with RSL’s will be entitled for payment in this Student Transport Assistance Scheme.

As such, students, heavily depend on their service so that they are at school on time and the Ministry hopes that these operators will reciprocate accordingly and get themselves registered.
