Prime Minister Commodore Voreqe Bainimarama says education remains a priority area for Government and must remain a national priority.
He made the comment as chief guest during the annual prizegiving ceremony for Saint Vincent’s College in Natovi this morning.
Commodore Bainimarama said education must not only mean providing the skill sets required for all but it must also give options.
“Whatever career you may choose at the end of high school, you must remember that the school provides you with the basics of knowledge,” the Prime Minister said.
“It is therefore very important that you work diligently in school and acquire knowledge. This will provide you with the foundations for your future.”
Commodore Bainimarama said Government would always continue to improve the quality of teaching through a progressive and responsible curriculum to ensure the achievement of an educated and skilled workforce.
“School drop-outs and skill-gaps will be addressed through initiatives such as strengthening of the National Youth Service Scheme, enhancement of vocations, community based informal education and the alignment of training national priorities,” Commodore Bainimarama said.
“For those of you leaving school for the final time this year, I wish you well in your future careers. Go and make your parents proud.”
