The opening of Family Choice Supermarket & Café PTE LTD is redefining the role of supermarkets, offering employment and crucial market access to farmers, fishermen, and local buyers.

Located on Matua Street, Walu Way in Suva, the $200,000 supermarket symbolises resilience, commitment, and vision, supporting the local economy and community.

Speaking during the opening, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister for Trade, Cooperatives, Small and Medium Enterprise, and Communications, Hon. Manoa Kamikamica said the opening was a testament to the confidence of investors and entrepreneurs in Fiji’s economy.

He said the supermarket would contribute towards keeping money circulating within the economy, boosting domestic trade, and encouraging further investment.

“It reflects the opportunities available and the determination of individuals who are willing to take the initiative in shaping their future and, ultimately, the nation’s prosperity,” Hon. Kamikamica said.

DPM Kamikamica said the Family Choice Supermarket & Café PTE LTD was a symbol of resilience, commitment, and vision.

“By establishing this supermarket and café, the owners are not only providing goods and services to the community but also creating employment opportunities, fostering entrepreneurship, and supporting local suppliers.

“Supermarkets play a crucial role in supply chain management, providing market access for farmers, fishermen, and local producers. When we choose to buy local, we empower Fijian businesses and encourage sustainability.”

“Additionally, the café component of this business adds another layer of value by promoting the food and hospitality industry, attracting customers, and creating a vibrant business environment in the local community.”

Supermarket owner Laleena Devi described the supermarket as a ‘one-stop shop’ for its customers.

“It’s a one-stop shop as you can get everything here from hardware to groceries to tasty and hygienic food,” she said.

Acknowledging the suppliers, family, and government for their support, Ms. Devi urged all women to remain determined and strive diligently to realise their dreams.
