Agriculture production for people in Raviravi and Sawau, Beqa is expected to be boosted following assistance by government through the donation of new farming equipment.
Funded by the Commissioner Central’s office, the farming equipment is part of government’s assistance to improve agricultural production on the island.
Acting Commissioner Central, Jone Bacau said that Beqa was the only place in Fiji where tomatoes were always in season and therefore necessary support must be made to improve production.
“This equipment is for all members for the two Tikinas registered and interested to form a cooperative and supported the call to utilize idle land for socio-economic growth,” Mr Bacau said.
In receiving the donation, Mata ni Tikina Raviravi, Masi Saqanavere said that they were happy to be part of government’s development plan.
“The equipment will help us improve our production and our overall plans to form our cooperative.
“We are grateful for the assistance provided to us by Government,” Mr Saqanavere said.
Similar sentiments were echoed by Mata ni Tikina Sawau, Atunaisa Tawake who said that the equipment will assist them in their endeavour to form a cooperative.
Funded under Governments self-help programme, the farming equipments which comprises of wheel barrows; spray tanks; chainsaw and nylon roll for green house, is in addition to the construction of two houses for the two tikinas cooperative costing Government around $51,000.00.
