FEA restructure

31/03/2010

The Attorney-General and Minister for Public Enterprise, Mr Aiyaz Sayed-Khaiyum has announced that a restructure of the Fiji Electricity Authority (FEA) is expected to get underway soon.

He said this is in line with Government’s plan to ensure more participation by the private sector.

“Cabinet [Tuesday 30th March) approved the restructure of FEA and that will mean we will be looking at some form of partial privatisation, which will include divestment of Government shares that we will need to do to corporatise FEA and for it to be able to list shares perhaps on the stock market,” Mr Sayed-Khaiyum said.

Mr Sayed-Khaiyum added that Government is looking at creating a lot more robust capital markets in Fiji but without Government losing control of FEA.

Government is also looking at the divestment of Government Printery to the private sector and that again contributes to the private sector development in the country, "but more so importantly it also needs to groom the economic and financial management within Government operations."
