In his capacity as Acting President of the General Assembly, Fiji’s Permanent Representative to the United Nations Ambassador Peter Thomson, chaired the General Assembly of the United Nations today.
In its morning session, the General Assembly considered the reports of the UN’s Fifth Committee, dealing primarily with the financing of UN peacekeeping missions.
In total, 23 Fifth Committee reports were considered and approved by the General Assembly during the morning session. A recorded vote was requested and taken on the resolution regarding the financing of the UN Interim Force in Lebanon.
Ambassador Thomson thanked the chairman, bureau members and delegates of the Fifth Committee for a job well done.
Ambassador Thomson is acting as President of the General Assembly from 17th June to 25th June.
