Fiji and India reaffirmed their commitment to strengthening bilateral relations during the 6th Foreign Office Consultation held at Ro Lalabalavu House in Suva today (29.07.25).
Deputy Prime Minister and Minister for Finance, Hon. Biman Prasad, welcomed the Indian delegation led by Dr. Neena Malhotra, Secretary (South) of India’s Ministry of External Affairs. She was joined by Ms. Pramita Tripathi, Joint Secretary (Oceania), and His Excellency Mr. Suneet Mehta, High Commissioner of the Republic of India to Fiji.
Talks focused on key areas of cooperation, including the proposed 100-bed Super Speciality Cardiology Hospital in Suva, with Professor Prasad confirming that land allocation has been approved and preparatory work is progressing.
The two sides also discussed the reciprocal exchange of site confirmation for diplomatic missions in Suva and New Delhi, with the lease process for India’s Chancery and Cultural Centre in Nasese nearing completion.
An MOU for the Tubalevu Groundwater Project under India’s Quick Impact Project will be signed during the consultation, while another MOU between the Bureau of Indian Standards and Fiji’s Department of National Trade Measurement & Standards is expected to be signed during the Prime Minister Hon. Sitiveni Rabuka's upcoming visit to India.
Fiji also acknowledged India’s support through the Know India Programme and the Tamil language teaching initiative launched in Rakiraki and Nadi.
The meeting reaffirmed the shared vision and strong partnership between the two nations.
