Suva, 4 August 2016 – Attorney-General Aiyaz Sayed-Khaiyum and the Prime Minister of Tuvalu, Enele Sopoaga, held talks today to broaden areas of cooperation between the two countries, particularly in supporting climate adaptation.
The two men discussed the Joint Statement signed by both nations at the Pacific Civil Aviation Ministers’ Meeting and reiterated their support for equitable and effective regulation of the aviation industry in small island countries.
The meeting also covered the recent Pacific Finance Ministers’ Meeting, and the two countries agreed to work collaboratively to meet the goals outlined in the Joint Outcome Statement, including knowledge-sharing on best financial practices.
The AG thanked Prime Minister Sopoaga for Tuvalu’s continued friendship and assured Fiji’s support in working on a regional level to strengthen ties between Pacific Island countries and coordinate global advocacy related to climate change.
