The Deputy Prime Minister and Minister for Trade, Co-operatives, MSMEs and Communications, Hon. Manoa Kamikamica, held a productive virtual meeting today with United States Trade Representative (USTR), H.E. Ambassador Jamieson Greer, to discuss strengthening of bilateral trade relations.
The discussions reaffirmed the long-standing partnership between Fiji and the United States, underpinned by shared values and mutual respect. Both parties acknowledged the importance of building on this strong foundation to expand trade and investment opportunities in both economies.
Deputy Prime Minister Kamikamica reiterated Fiji’s commitment to being a responsible and constructive partner in the global trading system. He also outlined Fiji’s current tariff regime.
Ambassador Greer highlighted the U.S. government’s interest in promoting reciprocal trade and expressed appreciation for Fiji’s openness to engage in constructive dialogue. He acknowledged the size differential between the two economies but emphasised the potential for mutually beneficial trade outcomes, particularly through greater market access and collaboration on standards and regulations.
Both sides agreed to task senior officials to continue technical discussions to explore mechanisms to improve two-way trade, including access in the agriculture and manufacturing sectors.
The Deputy Prime Minister welcomed the opportunity for continued engagement and expressed Fiji’s willingness to accelerate the process through face-to-face meetings, if required.
This dialogue marks another important step in strengthening the Fiji–U.S. trade relationship and reflects the shared commitment to deeper economic cooperation.
