FIJI APPOINTS MR. YIP AS HONORARY CONSUL TO HONG KONG, SAR

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs announces the appointment of Mr. Chai Tuck Yip as the Fijian Honorary Consul to Hong Kong, Special Administrative Region (SAR) of the People’s Republic of China. This strategic appointment underscores Fiji’s commitment to fostering stronger ties with China through enhanced diplomatic, economic, and cultural engagement.
 
The appointment of Mr. Yip reflects Fiji’s ongoing efforts to strengthen its diplomatic presence and economic partnerships in Asia, particularly within the framework of the China-Fiji comprehensive strategic partnership. Hong Kong, as a global financial and trade hub, offers significant opportunities for collaboration in areas such as investment, tourism, and cultural exchange.
 
Prime Minister and Minister for Foreign Affairs, Hon. Sitiveni Rabuka, emphasised the significance of this appointment to strengthening the relationship between Fiji and China.
 
Hong Kong is a unique jurisdiction of China in terms of world trade and cultural exchange, and Mr. Yip’s role will be instrumental in advancing the mutual interests between the two nations.
 
Fiji’s Ambassador to China, His Excellency Mr Robert Lee highlighted Mr. Yip’s expertise and extensive background in business and financial markets, which makes him the right appointment given Hong Kong’s status as a global financial centre. “His expertise will greatly contribute to connecting Fiji to this vital economic hub.” Mr Yip is a former Managing Director of Goldman Sachs in China.
 
Mr. CT Yip expressed his gratitude for the opportunity, saying, “I am deeply honoured by this appointment and look forward to providing assistance to the Fiji Government, and the people of Fiji in Hong Kong. I am committed to promoting Fiji’s interests and fostering stronger connections in this dynamic region.”
