Fiji’s armed forces which also includes the Fiji Police Forces and the Republic of Fiji Military Forces, have both been put on standby as the nation waits the arrival of Tropical Cyclone Evan.
As the cyclone continues on its current path towards the country, both organisations have called on both the men and women serving in the forces to be prepared for deployment.
The RFMF’s Land Forces Commander Colonel Mosese Tikoitoga has confirmed that the military have been briefed by DISMAC Officials on the expected arrival and strength of Cyclone Evan and is prepared for response.
“The RFMF has been briefed and we are in close contact with DISMAC. We are now ready for deployment in all parts of the country to help in rehabilitation and search and rescue operations”.
The head of the Police Forces today also reiterated the Prime Minister’s message for all Fijians to refrain from unnecessary travel and activities.
“The Prime Minister has said and it needs to be taken seriously by the Public. The police forces has been briefed on the instructions of the Prime Minister and we will do all we can to make sure that the public is safe during this disaster period”, said the Commissioner of Police Brigadier Ioane Naivalurua.
Today the Ministry of Information permanent secretary Sharon Smith Johns once again reiterated government’s message for the public to be prepared.
“We cannot stress the importance of the message and warnings that are being issued by authorities. We cannot be complacent and we must all be prepared”, Ms Smith Johns said.
“Disasters affect even the most basic services and facilities so make sure you have your essentials; water, batteries, medicine and food”.
