FIJI BASED MSG POLICE ACADEMY RECEIVES FUNDING

The soon to be established Melanesian Spearhead Group’s Regional Police Academy received a boost of close to a million dollars from the Indonesian Government.

Prime Minister Josaia Bainimarama received the donation on behalf of MSG from the Indonesian Government’s Secretary of Coordinating Ministry for Political, Legal and Security Affairs Lieutenant General Langgeng Sulistiyono. Lt General Sulistiyono led a delegation this morning to meet with the Prime Minister at his office at Government Buildings.

The head of the Fijian Government, while thanking the Indonesian Government for the assistance of US$500,000 (FJD$ 944,993), said it would go towards the establishment of an academy designed to boost the region’s police force.

Lt Gen Sulistiyono said the assistance might not be a big amount but it was a firm commitment of the Indonesian people towards the MSG in the establishment of the regional police academy.

“We are also inviting all the leaders from the MSG countries to visit Indonesia to build closer relations and allow better co-operation between these Ministers,” he said.

Lt Gen Sulistiyono said Indonesia has been supporting the MSG for a while and wanted their relations to further strengthen.

He also presented the Fijian Prime Minister with a token on behalf of his Minister, Mr Djoko Suyanto.

Fiji is taking a lead role in establishing the academy which will be based in Fiji to train police officers from the five MSG countries.
