09/10/2019

‘You can count yourselves lucky to be the focus of Government’s commitment towards education.’

This was the statement made by the Assistant Minister for Youth and Sports Hon. Alipate Nagata during the Fiji Day celebrations held at Samabula Primary School today.

Assistant Minister Nagata stressed that Fiji Day is a day of reflection and a day to look back and see all that has been achieved during Fiji’s independence.

“We can now boast one of the best education system in the Pacific and all this is because of Government’s desire to have an educated, peaceful and harmonious nation. We have realised that the only way we can move forward is to have an educated nation focused on moving the country forward towards greater heights.”

Assistant Minister Nagata highlighted that Government is fully aware of the need for education and peace and they are delivering what they know and feel is best for everyone.

“As a nation we have achieved a lot over the course of 49 years of our independence. We have grown in leaps and bounds and where we are today signifies the hard work put in to ensure a safer and brighter future for all Fijians.

He also highlighted that Fijians can define Independence as the freedom from the control or influence of others.

“It can also mean a variety of things, but historically it refers to the ability of nation states to practice self-government.

Fiji Day will be celebrated around the country tomorrow with the main celebrations held at Albert Park in Suva.
