Fiji’s Ambassador to the European Union based in Brussels, Ambassador Deo Saran has congratulated Fijian national, Ms Christelle Pratt, on her appointment as the Assistant Secretary General for Environment and Climate Action to the Organisation of the African Caribbean and Pacific (OACP) Secretariat.
Ambassador Saran welcomed Ms Pratt this week to the Fiji Embassy in Brussels and said that Fiji and the Pacific was proud that this newly established position was given to a Fiji national given the impact that the Pacific region faces from climate change.
In late 2019, leaders from the OACP States approved the establishment of the position of Assistant Secretary General for the Department of Environment and Climate Action.
This followed by OACP States submitting their nominations for the position as required.
Ms Pratt was Fiji’s nomination and subsequently, following an intensive application and recruitment process, was appointed to the position.
In congratulating Ms Pratt, Ambassador Saran said that it was a proud moment to see a Fijian serving at the highest level in OACP Secretariat. He added that Ms Pratt’s years of experience would bring value to the organisation. He highlighted that her role would put the issue of environment and climate at the top of the multilateral global agenda.
