FIJI EMBASSY IN JAPAN ORGANISES TRADE AND TOURISM SEMINAR

The Fiji Embassy in Tokyo for the first time jointly organized the “Fiji Trade and Tourism Seminar” by partnering with the Akita-Fiji Friendship Association, Japan External Trade Organisation (JETRO) Akita, Akita Prefectural Trade Promotion Association, Akita Chamber of Commerce and Industry. The seminar was also supported by Akita Prefecture, Akita City, United Nations Industrial Development Organization (UNIDO) Tokyo.
 
The seminar was officially opened by Fiji’s Ambassador to Japan Mr Isikeli Mataitoga on Friday, 6th September at the Akita city, Akita Prefecture, Japan.
 
Through this unique event, Ambassador Mataitoga provided an overview of Japan’s and Fiji’s diplomatic relationship, whilst stating that “Fiji has a strong industrial base and a favorable investment climate’ to encourage Japanese investors to look to Fiji as their potential investment destination.
 
Trade and Investment Manager of Investment Fiji, Mr. Kamal Chetty delivered a presentation focusing on the role of Investment Fiji, the overall investment climate as well as highlighting opportunities across priority sectors.
 
Detailed assistance programs and incentive, tax regime specifically designed for potential investors were also explained to the participants, and they were encouraged to choose Fiji for their next investment destination.
 
The seminar was attended by 60 senior Government officials, representatives of business sector, interested individuals and friends of Fiji in Akita, Tohoku region. A presentation was also made by Dr. Takehiro Kurosaki from the Tokai University, providing insights from the Japanese perception into Fijian economy and potential opportunities for the investors. 
 
The seminar was part of 3-day promotional outreach organized by the Fiji Embassy in Akita City, involving the Flying Fijian Rugby Team who were also in town for the pre-tournament training camp. A key feature of the promotional outreach also included tourism and cultural promotion that included the Mana Island Resort Cultural Group performing the local cultural items to the delight of the people of Akita City who visited venue of the fiesta.
 
Similar promotional events are planned for Sapporo city, Higashi Osaka city, and Oita city at the margins of the official Pool D, the Rugby World Cup Games of the Flying Fijians.
