The Ministry of Trade, Co-operatives, Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises and Communications is pleased to announce the formalissuance of 5G Spectrum Licences. The licence, signed and issued by the Permanent Secretary, Mr. Shaheen Ali, will take effect on 15 September 2025, enabling telecommunications operators to begin offering 5G services to the public.
This milestone marks a key step in the implementation of Fiji’s National Development Plan (2025–2029) and the National Digital Strategy (2025–2030).
“The deployment of 5G addresses Fiji’s local challenges, delivers tangible benefits to our communities, and will extend beyond the capital, Suva. It is being rolled out strategically and responsibly, in alignment with the Government’s national development goals and the readiness of our infrastructure. As part of the 5G rollout, parallel efforts are underway to modernise rural and maritime networks to 4G, reducing the digital divide and ensuring no community is left behind,” – Hon Manoa Kamikamica, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister for Trade, Co-operatives, MSMEs and Communications.
Planned Rollout (2025–2028)
Phase One of the rollouts, commencing this year (2025), will cover Suva, Nadi, Lautoka, and Denarau. These locations represent Fiji’s main economic corridors, ports, and medical centres, ensuring that from the outset, our commercial hubs, tourism centres, and emergency services gain access to 5G capacity and begin to experience its benefits.
Phase Two, beginning in 2026, will extend 5G coverage to Nasinu, Lami, Labasa, and Savusavu. This phase is designed to support balanced growth between Viti Levu and Vanua Levu.
Starting 2027, Phase Three of the rollout will iteratively expand 5G services to Nausori, Sigatoka, Navua, Ba, Tavua, Rakiraki, and Korovou, strengthening nationwide coverage and ensuring that more regional centres are brought into Fiji’s 5G journey.
“The issuance of 5G spectrum licences marks a historic milestone for Fiji, unlocking innovation and opportunity across the nation. Beyond faster connectivity, 5G can accelerate Fiji’s journey to a more connected and inclusive digital economy,” stated Telecommunication Authority of Fiji, CEO Mr. Prit Chand.
